1 wood pin cutout
19-gauge silver wire
1 ¼” pin back
E-6000 glue, sandpaper
1 (3 x 6) mm pearl

Evergreen, Hauser Light Green, Cadmium Red, Deep Burgundy,
Baby Pink, Plum, White, Olive, Marigold, Light Cinnamon, Lamp Black

Matte varnish

Instructions:

1). Cut the 3 pin pieces from ¼” wood and drill all holes as indicated with a 1/32” bit. Sand any rough edges smooth and wipe clean.

2). Basecoat the dark part of the rind with Evergreen. Basecoat the light part of the rind and the umbrella with Hauser Light Green. Basecoat the fleshy part of the watermelon with Cadmium Red. Basecoat the small flower with Baby Pink and the center of the flower with Marigold.

3). Using Evergreen, shade the light section of the rind nearest the dark section and shade in the umbrella sections. Using Plum, shade in the flower sections and around the flower center. Highlight the 3 top petals with White. ‘Dot’ the bottom edge of the flower center with Light Cinnamon and Lamp Black. ‘Dot’ the top part of the center with White.

4). Dry brush the center of the umbrella sections with Olive. Highlight the scalloped edge with White.

5). Shade around the fleshy part of the watermelon nearest the rind with Deep Burgundy. Apply the seeds with Lamp Black. Apply the highlight marks to the seeds with White.

6). Finish all pieces with Matte varnish.

Assemble:

Using 19-gauge wire, attach the pearl to the umbrella. Using a piece of wire folded in half and a dab of glue to attach the umbrella to the watermelon. Repeat for the flower. Glue pin back to the back of the watermelon. Enjoy!
